We look forward to welcoming you to Thessaloniki, Greece, for our upcoming course. Thessaloniki is a vibrant and historic city in Northern Greece, easily accessible by air, train, or bus.
For most international participants, the fastest and most convenient way to reach Thessaloniki is by air. Thessaloniki International Airport “Makedonia” (IATA code: SKG) serves as the main gateway to the city. Upon arrival at the airport, the city center can be reached in approximately 20 to 30 minutes by taxi, with fares typically ranging from €25 to €35 depending on time and traffic. Alternatively, the airport is connected to the city by public bus line X1 (and N1 at night), which is a reliable and affordable option, costing approximately €2.00. For those who prefer more flexibility, car rental services are also available at the airport.
If you are already in Greece, Thessaloniki is well connected to other cities by both train and intercity bus. Train services operated by Hellenic Train offer regular routes from Athens, with travel times ranging from 4.5 to 5.5 hours, depending on the type of service. Trains arrive at Thessaloniki Railway Station, which is centrally located with easy access to taxis and local public transportation. Intercity buses, run by KTEL, are another popular way to travel domestically and from nearby Balkan countries such as North Macedonia, Bulgaria, and Albania. These buses typically arrive at the KTEL Macedonia Bus Station, which is connected to the rest of the city by bus or taxi.
